Phimai historical park

The Phimai historical park protects one of the most important Khmer temples of Thailand. It is located in the town of Phimai, Nakhon Ratchasima province.

The temple marks one end of the Ancient Khmer Highway from Angkor. As the enclosed area of 1020x580m is comparable with that of Angkor Wat, Phimai must have been an important city in the Khmer empire. Most buildings are from the late 11th to the late 12th century, built in the Baphuon, Bayon and Angkor Wat style. However, even though the Khmer at that time were Hindu, the temple was built as a Buddhist temple, as Buddhism in the Khorat area dated back to the 7th century. Inscriptions name the site Vimayapura (which means city of Vimaya), which developed into the Thai name Phimai.

The first inventory of the ruins was done in 1901 by the French geographer Etienne Aymonier. They were put under
governmental protection by announcement in the Government Gazette, Volume 53, section 34, from September 27, 1936.
Most of the restorations were done from 1964 to 1969 as a joint Thai-French project. The historical park, now managed by the Fine Arts Department,
was officially opened by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on April 12, 1989.

I wonder how the kids know what's right?

The political turmoil in Thailand continues. And I thought about that the kids must get confused. Now more then ever the color of the shirt are more important for the two dominating political camps, red and yellow.
How should the kids understand this? How should kids understand when Che Guevara clothings and Nazi symbols are sold to somehow to promote either the yellow (Democrats) or the red (Republicans). For us it's confusing enough, but how do the Thai's educate their youth in this confusing matter? The poorest and the richest are rallying for The reds? The educated and high end middle class for the Nazi, communist symbol promoting Yellows? How this did happen?

And in the midst of this is there two political camps separating police against military (even if in theory) and a king that is loved by all but are probably to sick and tired of the turmoil to even mention anything (yet). And the Thai media are almost all controlled by the red or the yellow camp, and are under strict censorship. It's a classical pseudo democracy in that way, media has a LOT of conspiracy theory's, it was the same when Mr. Thaksin had almost total control over the media before the 2006 military coup.

As my friend told me Communist revolution symbols as Nazi symbols are strong symbols for change, that's why they are used. But I somehow can't let go of the fact that it seems more like they have no idea what kind of symbols they are selling and sometimes using in public life and political rally´s.
Maybe the kids in Thailand are as confused as I am. But I guess that's why you are not aloud to vote until you are 18, but the socialization are the base and they are thought this political confusion. As you understand I ask myself a question, concluding facts so if you have an answer for all of us who are are set with a big "?" please comment.

After hours

Most tourists and expats in Bangkok never use the locel bus service. Ok I understand of course the traffic jam makes it sometimes impossible. But at nightime it's an amazing and cheap ride through all of Bangkok. Try it!

Thailand 2006 Before coup d'état

As most people today are aware of  is the situation in Bangkok for the moment (2008-11-26) very uptight. This is not a new fenomenon. Since as long as "democracy" in Thailand could see    it´s first light shine on it's population, korruption and disatifaction has plagued the country's population, military and politcal workforce. The question of when/how/who/what, will make a difference to this situation is today harder then ever to get a grip on.
Until then I'll post some old photos from the Anti Thaksin rally just weeks before the military seized power in 2006.
